Back-Up Your Course

If you want to save content from a Brightspace course, whether to create a secure backup, keep an extra copy for future reference, or move materials to another course, the Import/Export/Copy Components tool makes it simple. Using a Master course is still recommended because it keeps all content up to date in a single Brightspace course that instructors can easily access; however, the exported course acts as an additional safeguard in case anything happens to the master.

Things to consider when exporting your course

  • The export package is a zipped folder that needs to stay in tact (no editing file names, adding new files or moving things around), otherwise it cannot be imported back into Brightspace
  • You must export all associated components (e.g., if you have assessments or topics with release conditions — you must export both the assessment or topic as well as the release condition). If you fail to export associated components, links to between them will break.
  • NO STUDENT DATA is included in the export (e.g., submissions, grades, quiz attempts, discussion posts, etc.)
