Kaltura

While all NIC Kaltura con­tent will con­tin­ue to be host­ed on Cana­di­an servers, as of Jan­u­ary 2026 all BCNet insti­tu­tions, includ­ing NIC, will align with the U.S.-based Kaltura SaaS, allow­ing NIC to receive reg­u­lar plat­form updates in line with Kaltura’s main release cycle. Kaltura oper­ates under provin­cial and fed­er­al shared ser­vice agree­ments for post-sec­ondary insti­tu­tions.

Kaltura Video

NIC’s Kaltura is a cloud-based video stor­age and stream­ing plat­form host­ed on servers in Mon­tre­al, Cana­da and set up for any NIC employ­ee or stu­dent for stor­ing, pub­lish­ing, and shar­ing videos, video col­lec­tions, and oth­er media (such as pod­casts, audio record­ings, large image files). Kaltura also comes with two free video record­ing tools (‘Express Cap­ture’ for imme­di­ate video cap­ture and ‘Kaltura Cap­ture’ for down­load­ing and using on your own com­put­er).

Kaltura Room

All NIC instruc­tors and stu­dents have access to Kaltura Room (for­mer­ly called Kaltura Vir­tu­al Class­room). Kaltura Room is a web con­fer­enc­ing plat­form focused on teach­ing and learn­ing first with a num­ber of fea­tures designed for instruc­tors.
