What is a Channel?

Chan­nels are col­lec­tions of videos that mul­ti­ple users can con­tribute to, allow­ing mem­bers of a spe­cif­ic group to share and view relat­ed con­tent. You can think of a chan­nel as a pri­vate video repos­i­to­ry for a defined audi­ence. Only users who have been grant­ed access to a chan­nel can see the videos in it.

In Bright­space, a chan­nel takes the form of a course Media Gallery, where only stu­dents enrolled in that course can view the videos shared there.

Chan­nels in Medi­a­Space exist out­side of Bright­space and are most use­ful for employ­ee groups who want a shared space to view or con­tribute videos on a par­tic­u­lar top­ic. These chan­nels are not pub­lic. A chan­nel becomes pub­licly vis­i­ble only when select­ed videos are added to a Gallery, which is admin­is­tered by CTLI and IT. Gal­leries appear in the drop­down menus in NIC Medi­a­Space and con­tain pub­lic col­lec­tions of videos that any­one can view.

What is a Playlist?

A playlist is a col­lec­tion of relat­ed videos gath­ered togeth­er with one URL for your users to access. You would cre­ate a playlist by going to your name in top right cor­ner and click­ing on “My Playlists” under the drop down menu. You would then click on + Cre­ate Playlist (aqua coloured but­ton on the right side of screen). Add a title, descrip­tion and any tags and a blank playlist will be cre­at­ed. Then scroll down under the infor­ma­tion and see + Add to Playlist — click­ing on that but­ton will bring up all your My Media videos. Click the + sign on the right side to add the video to your playlist.
