Getting Started
Kaltura Room (formerly Kaltura Virtual Classroom) is NIC’s official web-conferencing tool for online teaching and is the only web-conferencing platform approved for online instruction at NIC. Because it is fully web-based and cloud-hosted, no app or software installation is required, but it is imperative to have a strong internet connection and an updated web browser for the best experience.
Kaltura Room is fully integrated with Brightspace, which means every course automatically includes its own virtual room. Instructors can create additional rooms for office hours or other activities, and students can create their own rooms for group work or connecting with classmates.
IMPORTANT TO NOTE:
- Kaltura Room supports up to 100 participants, with a maximum of 25 on stage and the remaining 75 as viewers.
- Kaltura Room is accessible on mobile devices through a browser — no app required. Most features are available, including chat, raising hands, joining the stage, and participating in breakout rooms. However, some moderation and advanced presenter tools (like storyboard editing, layout changes, and screen sharing) are view-only on mobile.
