Submitting NIC Grades
There will always be 2 methÂods for instrucÂtors to subÂmit their final grades as listÂed below. Choose ONE method.
- MyNÂIC EmployÂee Self SerÂvice
- this is through MyNÂIC EmployÂee Self-SerÂvice porÂtal where instrucÂtors manÂuÂalÂly enter their grades for their course secÂtions
- FolÂlow the steps found in: EnterÂing Grades through Self-SerÂvice â InstrucÂtions â PDF VerÂsion
- BrightÂspace (NEW!)
- This is a new serÂvice if you use the gradeÂbook in BrightÂspace â you can âpushâ your grades to the NIC ColÂleague sysÂtem from withÂin BrightÂspace (and not have to manÂuÂalÂly do it)
- FolÂlow the instrucÂtions first for releasÂing your grades: GradÂing â ReleasÂing your Final Grades in BrightÂspace â InstrucÂtions â PDF VerÂsion
- Then push your grades through exportÂing: GradÂing â ExportÂing your Grades from BrightÂspace to ColÂleague â InstrucÂtions â PDF VerÂsion
- Using this method would mean that you do no need to manÂuÂalÂly re-enter the grades you are storÂing in BrightÂspace into your EmployÂee Self-SerÂvice.
WHAT IS THE DEADLINE TO ENTER MY GRADES?
- Final grades must be entered or exportÂed to the stuÂdent inforÂmaÂtion sysÂtem (ColÂleague) withÂin sevÂen (7) calÂenÂdar days after the pubÂlished final exam date for your course OR the last day of class for the coursÂes that have no final exam.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO SUBMIT GRADES ON TIME?
- TimeÂly entry of final grades will help the RegÂisÂtrarâs Office idenÂtiÂfy and supÂport stuÂdents at risk.
- It is imporÂtant that NIC book meetÂings with stuÂdents that are in jeopÂardy of being susÂpendÂed as per PolÂiÂcy 3â37 AcaÂdÂeÂmÂic StandÂing and ProÂgresÂsion as soon as posÂsiÂble.
- When grades are subÂmitÂted late stuÂdents move forÂward and buy books and start to attend coursÂes in the next term that they are not eliÂgiÂble to attend.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DNC AND INC?
Is you have quesÂtion regardÂing North Island Collegeâs GradÂing SysÂtem please see PolÂiÂcy 4â14. Grades that typÂiÂcalÂly cause the most conÂfuÂsion for facÂulÂty are DNC and INC â see below:
- DNC (Did Not ComÂplete) â this grade is assigned to the stuÂdent that does not comÂplete required course work; has stopped attendÂing or comÂmuÂniÂcatÂing with the instrucÂtor. These stuÂdents have also not forÂmalÂly withÂdrawn from the course by the offiÂcial withÂdrawÂal date.
- âDid Not ComÂpleteâ conÂstiÂtutes a failÂing grade and repÂreÂsents a 0 GPA.
- INC (IncomÂplete) â the stuÂdent is unable to comÂplete a course in the schedÂuled time due to demonÂstratÂed excepÂtionÂal cirÂcumÂstances. âINCâ is a temÂpoÂrary standÂing applied to a course for a specÂiÂfied periÂod reflectÂed by a specÂiÂfied extendÂed end date.
- Dean/director approval is required for this staÂtus (see below).
Although both a DNC and F grade both repÂreÂsent a 0 GPA on the studentâs record, it is imporÂtant to disÂtinÂguish between the two. A DNC indiÂcates that the stuÂdent stopped attendÂing and didnât finÂish the course work; whereÂas, an F repÂreÂsents that the stuÂdent comÂpletÂed the course work but the assessÂment of the work was less than 50%.
WHAT IF I HAVE EXCEPTIONAL STUDENT CIRCUMSTANCES?
- For those stuÂdents that may have excepÂtionÂal cirÂcumÂstances â instrucÂtors can apply for an IncomÂplete standÂing (INC).
- The instrucÂtor will comÂplete the IncomÂplete StandÂing Request form and subÂmit to their dean/director for approval.
- If the dean/director approves, they will sign the form and subÂmit to the StuÂdent Records Office (SRO).
- SRO will add the INC standÂing and expiry date to the stuÂdent record.
- InstrucÂtors will either subÂmit a grade change form to SRO (one form must be subÂmitÂted for each grade change) priÂor to the specÂiÂfied extendÂed end date or the standÂing will autoÂmatÂiÂcalÂly change to Did Not ComÂplete (DNC).
- INC end date is not norÂmalÂly more than three months.
TELL ME ABOUT STRANGE SITUATIONS?
- Every year we hear about difÂferÂent excepÂtionÂal cirÂcumÂstances for why grades could not be entered for some stuÂdents.
- See the interÂnal docÂuÂment from RegÂisÂtrar email: GradÂing SupÂport for Strange SitÂuÂaÂtions RO
- HopeÂfulÂly this will guide you in what to do when you donât think you can grade a stuÂdent by the required grade subÂmisÂsion deadÂline.
