Pass/Fail Grade Items

A Pass/Fail grade item is use­ful when the goal is to track com­ple­tion or com­pe­ten­cy rather than assign a numer­ic score. It works well for activ­i­ties such as ori­en­ta­tion mod­ules, safe­ty train­ing, prac­tice quizzes, par­tic­i­pa­tion tasks, or manda­to­ry but low-stakes require­ments where stu­dents either meet the cri­te­ria or do not. Using Pass/Fail can reduce grade anx­i­ety, sim­pli­fy eval­u­a­tion, and keep the focus on skill devel­op­ment or com­ple­tion rather than per­cent­age per­for­mance.
