Kaltura Video
Kaltura Video Overview
Kaltura is NIC’s video platform for hosting and managing media. It can be accessed through Kaltura My Media in Brightspace or NIC’s Media Space site, which provides cloud storage on servers in Montreal, Canada. It is available to all NIC employees and students for storing and sharing videos and other media (e.g., podcasts, audio, and images), and includes two recording tools: Express Capture (in-browser) and Kaltura Capture (downloadable). Like YouTube, MediaSpace allows users to add and share media and automatically adjusts video resolution for different devices. Unlike YouTube, MediaSpace has no advertisements and does not store content outside of Canada. It is fully BC FIPPA compliant.
What Can Kaltura Do?

Managing Your Kaltura My Media Collection
NIC MediaSpace
MediaSpace is a social video public-facing portal like YouTube. With NIC’s MediaSpace, any NIC student or employee can securely create, upload, share, search, browse, and watch live and on demand videos, presentations, screencasts, and other rich media content, anytime, anywhere. However, because NIC has Kaltura integrated into Brightspace this “doorway” is rarely used by students and instructors.
NIC’s MediaSpace is the “front-door” into your Kaltura account. We have also installed a Brightspace “connector” to be used as another doorway in Brightspace courses. This page outlines how to use and work within NIC MediaSpace. You would want to use the MediaSpace platform if you are sharing video with people beyond Brightspace such as any department or unit at North Island College or if you are an instructor or student and want to share a video with someone beyond your classes or with family or friends.
The following handouts have been customed for NIC users:
